I’m new to the shapewear game, mostly because I had one or two pretty uncomfortable run-ins with some seamless shorts at various proms and formals in high school. Granted, that was (I hate to admit) a long time ago and shapewear seems to have changed a lot since then. But I always felt more constricted than confident in it, so I never really saw the point. But now that I’ve tried on these undies from SKIMS, I totally get it.
Full disclosure – the brand sent me these to try, but I was genuinely surprised at how much I liked them. You’d think underwear that gives you a Kardashian waist would be pretty uncomfortable, but these aren’t. In full Kim fashion, these seamless and cotton briefs pinch in your waist a pretty considerable amount, and they feel really good on. Maybe even a little too good. While I’m not a believer that women ‘need’ shapewear per se, I must admit that wearing these does make me feel something – dare I say, ‘snatched’? Is that what the kids are saying these days? I can see how they might make you feel just a little bit more secure and confident if you were forced to wear something tight for an event while you’re feeling bloated, or if you’re worried about a dress being too sheer or revealing.
With my new discovery on the brain, I started noticing super cool shapewear items online that I’m not exactly sure how you’d wear (long bodysuits, skirt slips and the like), but which are so cute that you want to wear them anyways. In fact, I sort of see shapewear as something that may or may not make a huge difference to what other people notice, but that you’d wear for yourself just because, like a pretty piece of lingerie. Now these items from SKIMS were pretty comfy so maybe I won’t be singing the same tune once I try a few more things, but for now I’m digging the idea. Scroll down to shop some of my favorite shapewear picks of the moment, and tell me if you’ve tried wearing it and what you think.
