When it’s 90+ degrees out, the last thing in the world I want to do is to fuss over complicated outfits. Loose and lightweight has been the name of the game for the past few weeks – this heat wave has been no joke. I’ve been living in easy dresses since jeans are absolutely out of the question and since I’ve been too lazy to sport many layers. One staple that has been my go-to this year is the slip dress. I’ve been a huge fan of them for ages, but they’ve been particularly handy this summer whenever I need a versatile day-to-night look that doesn’t take much thought but still looks like I tried (when in reality I sat in front of my AC for 20 mins before slapping some makeup on my face).
I’m super excited to be partnering with Topshop on this post, styling a couple slip dresses from their new arrivals. What I love most about both dresses is that they’re so easily worn from day-to-night, which is an absolute requirement for me during the summer. More versatility means fewer outfit changes and less work when it’s just too hot to deal.
First up is this breezy polka dot slip, which is super comfy and has a cool lingerie look to it. The lightweight material and lace panels are lifesavers in the heat, but it’s just fancy enough to wear out to date night or a party. I went for low casual heels that almost look like sandals with their open weave material. They add an unexpected pop and save me from wearing sky-high stilettos just to make this look a bit sexier.
This red/orange jacquard dress has a bit more formal feel to it (in fact, I think it would be a great wedding guest dress), but I wore it with these gladiator rope flats to give it a more casual vibe. Often when I go out during the summer or when I’m on vacation, I forego heels altogether – which in my opinion gives your night-out looks a more edgy, effortless feel.
