It’s July, which means I’m in a vacation state of mind. It’s too hot to think about anything besides planting myself as near as possible to a body of water, whether it be a pool or ocean. Last summer I showed you guys how to pack for a two-week European vacation with just a carry-on, and this summer I’m showing you my weekend getaway style picks, for short escapes or roadtrips. I recently spent a short weekend in Palm Springs, and aside from the 118-degree heat, it was the sweet little oasis away from the big city it always is. It’s almost close enough to LA to be considered a ‘staycay’ in my opinion, being less than 2 hours away.
No elaborate outfits are needed when considering how to pack for a weekend getaway. You won’t want to take anything larger than an overnight bag (if you are, you’re doing wrong). When you’re battling ridiculous temperatures, hemlines will probably be shorter, fabrics will be thinner, and colors lighter. And less bulky items work in your favor in terms of packing light. You’ll need 2-3 dinner outfits (i.e. dresses, jumpsuits, or rompers – keep it simple with one piece), 2 daytime looks, and no more than 2 shoe options – 1 pair of sneakers and sandals should do it. Because honestly, screw wearing heels on vacay, even if it is only 2 days. Summer heatwaves seem to be starting earlier this year, so I’ll be living in lightweight white dresses like this one, denim shorts, easy tees and cute bikinis.
