I’m the quintessential 80’s baby that grew up in the 90’s. My life revolved around the Spice Girls, N’Sync, Britney Spears, and the like. At 8 years old I was already obsessed with ‘fashion’ (I use that term loosely as my version as a kid could hardly be considered as such nowย ๐ย ), and basically did my best Baby Spice impression on the daily at school, much to my mom’s chagrin.ย
Tattoo chokers, glitter lipgloss, Rocket Dog platforms, shrugs – omg, shrugs.ย Cringe. Thankfully today’s version of the 90’s is much cleaner, sexier, and way more grown up. Hindsight is 20/20, so the blessing of today’s fashion landscape is that we’ve cherry picked the best trends from all previous generations and made them our own. My 90’s inspo of current times is basically Emily Ratajkowski wearing Reformation – I mean, is there anything hotter? No. No there is not. Sexy little dresses with timeless prints in a slip silhouette (like this one I’m wearing from & Other Stories), mom jeans, square cut necklines… ย The 90’s honey of 2017 has a just-got-back-from-vacay tan, no-fuss undone hair, and simple gold jewelry with vintage vibes. I’ll take that over the Vegas babydoll 90’s of my past any day, thanks.
To me, the best way to make your 90’s inspired pieces feel more modern are accessory choices. Espadrilles are my go-to for giving any summer outfit a chic European vibe, and I love the edgy contrasted sole of these ones (also from & Other Stories). Since this dress has a very cutesy print, I wanted to feel more like a grown-ass woman with a waist belt to accentuate my curves a bit.
Which trend from the 90’s was your favorite? Least favorite? Tell me in the comments below!
