How I Do Evening

I’m a bit of a homebody these days, but on the rare occasion that I can be persuaded into putting extra makeup on and zipping myself into something tight, I like to feel a bit sexy and sophisticated – with just a touch of an edge. Now I don’t normally get this dressed up just to go out for a drink (I’m more of a jeans and heels kinda gal), but I had the opportunity to get a little jazzy for an event with Louise recently.

Like I said, I’m really a casual night-out dresser, so my version of evening has to have elements that make me feel like myself – a moto jacket, mostly all black color palette, with a little twist. I love the unexpected pairing of tall boots with a midi skirt. There’s something extra sexy about not showing any leg – just the silhouette. Almost Kim K vibes (in the best way possible).

It can be really easy when you’re ‘dressing up’ to end up forcing a look that doesn’t really feel like you. Even though I’ve worked in fashion most of my adult life, I’m just now discovering my true style in the last year or two. Everything leading up to now felt like I was dressing for who I thought wanted to be or should be, rather than what came most naturally to me. I think being able to do that comes with learning more about myself as well – it sounds silly, but I’ve learned so much about my fashion and home style just from scouring Pinterest and Tumblr like a maniac. I’ve been furniture shopping and trying to design my next apartment, and ended up with a Pinterest addiction as a result. It helps you to organize your thoughts if you’re a visual person like me, and helps get the creative juices going. So don’t judge my Pinterest obsession too much! I haven’t felt this inspired for years, so I think the late night scrolling sesh’s are worth it.
