I recently took a trip to the East Coast for the first time in my life (which as a fashion loving American is super strange to admit, still never been to New York), and I had zero idea how to pack. I was born and raised in southern California, meaning 65 degrees = FREEZING. How the hell are you supposed to pack for the 40s during the day and 20s at night, without hauling an XL suitcase stuffed full of chunky knit sweaters, 30 blanket scarves, long underwear and puffy jackets designed for the arctic? My boyfriend knocked some sense into me by reminding me that it’s realistically NOT THAT COLD, and a few layers will do.
This faux-shearling jacket from Zara (which really is more of a cardigan weight) folded up nicely, and kept me plenty warm during the day over a couple layers of light fitted sweaters. When paired with these over-the-knee boots and super thick socks, I felt like an East Coast pro. Cold weather, I will make you my bitch! Now that isn’t to say I wasn’t freezing my ass off at night – but that’s what leggings under your jeans and shots of Fireball are for.
