It took me a while to warm up to the patent trend, but once I got it, I got it. At first glance, it seems a little 90’s, and a bit over-the-top for everyday life. But once my blogger crush Lucy showed us how to rock it in a casual way, it suddenly made sense. It’s a cool texture that adds a subtle pop to your look, and can really jazz up a neutral color palette to make a daytime outfit a bit more fun (and just a touch naughty).
While I usually think of patent as being more of a night-out kinda deal, I wanted to wear this skirt in a way that was a little less obvious. So to make it appropriate to wear before sundown and less ‘up in the club’, I went for extra casual and slightly undone vibes – the comfiest low-heel boots of all time, and a cozy sweater in a contrasting color. I love that it’s versatile too, so I could sport this look in the day but feel good about hitting up a vibey happy hour or dinner somewhere after work (which, les be honest, is the extent of my partying at the moment).
The longer I dwell in this later half of my twenties, I just find that I’m less and less excited to slather makeup on my face and stay out until 4am. Now, don’t get me wrong – one does need an epic night of adventure with your ladies every so often, but these days I’m embarrassingly happy to entertain myself in more PG ways (is it weird to get excited to do a Korean face mask?). For now, I guess I’ll have to keep figuring out more ways to sport sassy nighttime clothes by day.
